About The Position

The Patient Care Technician provides basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision in the Cardiovascular ICU Stepdown department at UAB St. Vincent's East. The role assists patients with mobility and activities of daily living, reports changes in patient condition to nursing staff, documents records, maintains patient rooms and medical equipment, and performs designated technical care tasks as directed by a staff nurse. The position is full-time nights, working three 12-hour shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Benefits for eligible positions include generous paid time off, paid parental leave, an Associate Assistance Program, and tuition reimbursement.

Requirements

BLS Provider certification must be obtained within 1 month (30 days) of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
High school diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience is required.

Responsibilities

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
Assist patients with ambulation, including moving to a recliner, walking to the bathroom or down the hall, and getting safely to their vehicles after dismissal.
Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
Report findings or changes in patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff and document necessary records.
Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
Perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, including oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and patient inputs and outputs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
