About The Position

The Patient Care Technician provides basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision in the Cardiovascular ICU Stepdown department at UAB St. Vincent's East. The role assists patients with mobility and activities of daily living, reports and documents changes in patients' conditions, maintains clean patient rooms and medical equipment, performs selected technical care duties as directed by nursing staff, and records vital signs and other measurements. This is a full-time day position scheduled for three 12-hour shifts, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Requirements

• BLS Provider certification must be obtained within 30 days of the hire date or job transfer date; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation, including transfers to a recliner, walking to the bathroom or down the hall, and getting safely to their vehicles after discharge.
• Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
• Report findings or changes in patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff, and document necessary records.
• Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
• Perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, such as oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
