PCT - Patient Care Technician - CVICU Stepdown - Nights
About The Position
The Patient Care Technician provides basic clinical and non-clinical patient care under supervision in the Cardiovascular ICU Stepdown department at UAB St. Vincent's East. The role is full-time nights, working three 12-hour shifts from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. The technician supports patients with mobility and activities of daily living, reports changes in patient condition to nursing staff, documents necessary records, and helps maintain clean and orderly patient rooms and medical equipment. Under direction of the staff nurse, the technician also performs specified technical care tasks, including oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs. UAB St. Vincent’s is part of UAB Medicine and serves Alabama through five hospitals and numerous clinics. Requirements
- BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
- High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
- Assist patients with ambulation, including transfers to a recliner and walks to the bathroom or down the hall.
- Help dismissed patients get safely to their vehicles.
- Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
- Report findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
- Document necessary records.
- Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
- Perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, including oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
- Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and intake and output.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
