Patient Care Technician – Medical Surgical Combo
About The Position
Memorial Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician for its 34-bed Medical-Surgical and Telemetry floors. The unit cares for a diverse patient population requiring acute medical care and cardiac monitoring. Technicians work collaboratively with nursing staff in a fast-paced acute care environment, supporting patient care, mobility, vital-sign monitoring, and activities of daily living. Staffing is typically two to three technicians per floor depending on census, with approximately 8–12 patients per technician. The position is scheduled for day shifts, three 12-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The role serves patients from neonatal through older adult populations and may involve occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other workplace exposures.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- SRNA or EMT license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Nice To Haves
- Handle with Care certification preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic patient care delegated by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possible blood glucose measurements, and accurately recording intake and output.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, and ambulation.
- Observe and promptly report abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to nursing staff.
- Maintain clean, safe, and well-stocked patient rooms and common areas.
- Manage the tech desk and support nursing and physician staff as well as overall department throughput.
- Document care and activities according to unit standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Participate in performance improvement and required education.
