About The Position

The Patient Care Technician provides direct or indirect patient care in accordance with treatment plans determined or delegated by a licensed nurse. The role executes tasks and skills with quality and safe care, while ensuring interactions align with the expectation of a positive patient experience. This position is in the Surgical Telemetry department at Unity Hospital in Rochester, New York. It is full-time, with rotating day, evening, and night shifts and every other weekend.

Requirements

Minimum age of 18.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree.
Completion of Nursing Fundamentals.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
One year of experience as a medical assistant or technician in a health-related facility.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Clean appropriate equipment, change bed linens, stock supplies in patient rooms and the unit, and prepare rooms for anticipated admissions.
Provide safe, competent care for patients’ nutritional, skin integrity, elimination, hygiene, and comfort needs, including bathing and grooming.
Perform clinical duties under the direction or supervision of an RN, including vital signs, pulse oximetry, EKGs, one-to-one care, and admission and discharge processes.
Collect and dispose of some specimens using correct procedures.
Demonstrate communication skills, compassion, and professionalism.
Assist with safe ambulation and transfers, and use lift devices appropriately.
Follow all departmental safety initiatives.
Assist with post-mortem care.
Meet unit- and department-specific skills and competency expectations.
Respond to patient call lights and patient or family requests for assistance in a timely and courteous manner.
