Geisinger is piloting a new ACE (Achieving Collaborative Excellence) Nursing Model of Care on its Advanced Acute Care Units at the Danville campus. This model utilizes Patient Care Technicians to perform duties that do not require a nursing license, offering opportunities for career advancement, autonomy, and greater involvement in patient care. The role involves delivering high-quality care, meeting scheduling requirements, and demonstrating reliability, punctuality, and strong attendance. Responsibilities include being a primary facilitator of ADLs, collecting vital signs, conducting Point of Care testing, turning and repositioning patients, performing equipment checks, dressing care, removing Foley Catheters and Peripheral IVs, performing nasal swabs, and checking code carts and oxygen storage cabinets. The position also involves documentation, identifying and reporting changes in patient condition, obtaining and maintaining specimen integrity, assisting with patient hygiene and linen changes, providing one-to-one patient safety watch, processing and transporting specimens, performing Point of Care patient testing, assisting with equipment and supply maintenance, serving as a preceptor/mentor, performing clerical duties for admissions/transfers/discharges/deaths, transcribing and processing orders, coordinating patient transportation, communicating electronic information, ordering supplies, communicating with food services, operating and troubleshooting clerical equipment, and assisting with transporting non-controlled medications and blood products. The role also includes discharge follow-up calls, supporting 5-minute Drills and Quality Rounds, and participating in regulatory readiness. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
