About The Position

Geisinger is piloting a new model of care, the ACE Nursing Model of Care, on its Advanced Acute Care Units at the Danville campus. This model utilizes Patient Care Technicians to perform duties that do not require a nursing license, offering opportunities for career advancement, autonomy, and greater involvement in patient care. Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
• Basic Life Support Certification within 6 months
• Ability to meet orientation and long-term full-time scheduling requirements

• Ability to document in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record
• Ability to identify, observe, and document the physical needs of the patient according to established standards
• Ability to report any changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in a timely manner
• Ability to obtain and maintain the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician order
• Ability to provide for or assist patients with activities of daily living and fulfill designated and delegated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care, including patient hygiene and changing linens
• Ability to provide one to one patient safety watch as assigned following established policies and procedures
• Ability to accurately process specimens and provide timely transport of the specimen to the laboratory
• Ability to perform point of care patient testing and point of care instrument maintenance and quality control
• Ability to assist in problem solving, trouble shooting and taking corrective measures in care and maintenance of equipment and supplies
• Ability to serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner
• Ability to perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards and facilitate patient throughput activities
• Ability to transcribe and process orders according to unit standard
• Ability to release and confirm ordered tests to appropriate departments
• Ability to coordinate transportation of patients to multiple tests
• Ability to participate in obtaining and communicating electronic information as pertinent to the nursing unit
• Ability to schedule tests, fax consults, etc.
• Ability to assist in ordering supplies (stationery items, floor stock, patient needs, individual nursing supplies)
• Ability to communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets
• Ability to operate, problem solve, and take corrective measures for clerical equipment, including scheduling maintenance of computers, fax machines, phones, etc.
• Ability to transport non-controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and within the unit as needed
• Ability to assist with transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank as needed
• Ability to perform discharge follow up phone calls / coordinate virtual discharge appointment team
• Ability to support / assist staff with 5 min Drills and/or Quality Rounds - participate in regulatory readiness as needed
• Ability to satisfy all job specific obligations and comply with all organization policies and procedures

Nice To Haves

• Minimum of 1 year clinical experience
• Currently enrolled in an accredited RN or LPN program (considered for Student Nurse Associate role)

Responsibilities

• Facilitate ADLs (hygiene, toileting, mobility, meals)
• Collect vital signs & daily weights
• Conduct Point of Care testing
• Turn & reposition patients
• Perform equipment checks & exchanges
• Provide dressing care
• Remove Foley Catheter and Peripheral IV
• Perform nasogastric tube removal and nasal swabs
• Check code carts and oxygen storage cabinets
• Perform a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
• Maintain the patient care and unit environment consistent with policies, procedures, and practices
• Provide enhanced patient care under the direction of the licensed nurse, which may include advanced dressing care, suctioning, removal of Foley Catheter and peripheral IV
