About The Position

Geisinger is piloting a new model of care on its Advanced Acute Care Units at its Danville, Bloomsburg, and Shamokin campuses. This ACE (Achieving Collaborative Excellence) Nursing Model of Care utilizes more Patient Care Technician staff to take responsibility for and perform duties that do not require a nursing license. This model offers Patient Care Technicians more opportunities for career advancement, autonomy, and greater involvement in patient care delivery. The role involves performing a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, maintaining the patient care and unit environment according to policies and procedures. The technician will meet qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range of their assigned clinical area. This position offers a $1500 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates, a minimum hiring rate of $18.94 with increased rates for experienced individuals, and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Additionally, Geisinger offers up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate ADLs: hygiene, toileting, mobility, meals
  • Collect vital signs & daily weights
  • Conduct Point of Care testing
  • Turn & reposition patients
  • Perform equipment checks & exchanges
  • Provide dressing care
  • Remove Foley Catheter and Peripheral IV
  • Remove Nasogastric tube and perform nasal swabs
  • Check code carts and oxygen storage cabinets
  • Document in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record
  • Identify, observe, and document the physical needs of the patient according to established standards. Report any changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in a timely manner
  • Obtain and maintain the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician order
  • Provide for or assist patients with activities of daily living and fulfill designated and delegated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care. Includes patient hygiene and changing linens
  • Provide one to one patient safety watch as assigned following established policies and procedures
  • Accurately process specimens and provide timely transport of the specimen to the laboratory
  • Perform point of care patient testing and point of care instrument maintenance and quality control
  • Assist in problem solving, trouble shooting and taking corrective measures in care and maintenance of equipment and supplies
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner
  • Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards and facilitate patient throughput activities
  • Transcribe and process orders according to unit standard
  • Release and confirm ordered tests to appropriate departments
  • Coordinate transportation of patients to multiple tests
  • Participate in obtaining and communicating electronic information as pertinent to the nursing unit
  • Schedule tests, fax consults, etc.
  • Assist in ordering supplies: Stationery items as well as floor stock, patient needs, individual nursing supplies
  • Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets
  • Operate, problem solve, and take corrective measures for clerical equipment. To include scheduling maintenance of computers, fax machines, phones, etc.
  • Transport non-controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and within the unit as needed
  • Assist with transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank as needed
  • Perform discharge follow up phone calls / coordinate virtual discharge appointment team
  • Support / Assist staff with 5 min Drills and/or Quality Rounds - participate in regulatory readiness as needed
