About The Position

A non-licensed healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health Systems who is responsible for direct and/or indirect patient care. The Patient Care Technician must demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served, exercise judgment to recognize signs and symptoms requiring further evaluation by a licensed nurse, communicate effectively with customers and team members, and adapt flexibly to change.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED, or an occupational diploma paired with successful completion of the Project SEARCH program, unless meeting one of the stated preferred qualifications.
• BLS must be completed before going to the unit or department and maintained thereafter.
• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
• Exercise judgment to recognize and identify signs and symptoms that require further evaluation by a licensed nurse.
• Communicate effectively with customers and team members and adapt to change.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Tennessee.
• First Responder.
• EMT.
• Nursing student who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing.
• Medical Assistant.
• Pre-med student.
• Military Corpsman.
• Combat Life Saver or Combat Medic.
• Surgical Technician.
• CNA certification, EMT, or First Responder certification, if applicable.
• Employees hired as Patient Care Technicians before March 1, 2004, who do not have the listed educational requirements are grandfathered in, subject to successfully completing an Erlanger fundamentals checklist, observed demonstration, and written exam.
