The Patient Care Technician works in the Emergency Department of a Level I Trauma Center that cares for approximately 140–150 patients each day. Using a team nursing model, technicians partner with nurses and paramedics to provide patient care and department support. The role includes direct patient care and unit support duties, with opportunities to develop advanced skills such as straight sticks, splinting, and trauma support through on-the-job training. With advanced training, technicians may perform trauma technician functions. Extensive training and development are provided; prior emergency department experience is strongly preferred but not required. This is a full-time night-shift position working three 12-hour shifts, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Self-scheduling is available for shifts and weekend coverage; workdays may vary and are not fixed. Weekend and holiday rotations are required. Weekend, evening, and night shift differentials are offered where applicable. The technician provides patient-related care tasks based on the principles of growth and development across the life span of patients served in the unit. Under the direct supervision of a licensed caregiver, the technician assists with patient care, observes and reports changes in patient condition, and documents care accurately in the medical record. The role also involves responding to questions or concerns from patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare team members.
