About The Position

The Patient Care Technician assists with providing quality patient care by performing assigned duties and specified patient care activities under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse. The role helps establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, families, healthcare personnel, and other departments. The technician assists with care for mildly, chronically, and acutely ill patients and is accountable for carrying out assigned duties.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Phlebotomy and glucometer experience or training.
Nursing aide training.
Previous experience or job knowledge.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.
Good physical and mental health to meet the role’s standing, walking, stretching, and lifting demands.

Responsibilities

Perform tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures and instructions from the Charge Nurse.
Perform and record specimen collection.
Assist with post-mortem care.
Take and record temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and pulse oximetry as directed.
Assist with dressing changes as directed and in accordance with hospital standards.
Report changes in patients’ conditions to the primary RN, Charge Nurse, or Nursing Supervisor.
Promote adequate patient nutrition by assisting with meals and feeding patients.
Assist with the care of patients in isolation.
Operate equipment safely after receiving instruction on its use.
