About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT)/Unit Secretary role is a full-time position on a telemetry unit (Tele 4 or Tele 3). These units specialize in general medical-surgical and telemetry patients, including those with pneumonia, ESRD, stroke, CHF, and chest pain. They also care for post-operative patients from GU, Urology, Orthopedics, Bariatrics, and Heart Cath/PCI. The patient population often has multiple co-morbidities and complex care needs, with patients admitted or transferred from ICU, ED, and PACU. Under the direction of a registered nurse (RN) or other licensed care team member, the PCT/Unit Secretary provides direct and indirect patient care, along with administrative support to ensure efficient unit operations and effective communication.

Requirements

  • Current Kentucky Nurse Aide Certification required or successful completion of first year of a Nursing program and validation of a clinical rotation consistent with level of education.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (must be obtained within 30 days of hire)

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients in personal hygiene activities such as bathing, dental and oral care, hair, and nail care.
  • Assist patients with bowel and bladder functions while maintaining dignity.
  • Record patient intake and output (I & O).
  • Collect, label, and transport specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Assist patients with activity, turning and repositioning as indicated by provider order and in collaboration with the nurse.
  • Communicate pertinent patient information/findings to patient’s nurse.
  • Prepare patients, equipment, and supplies for specific procedures and provide manual assistance as needed.
  • Escort or transport patients to various hospital locations while maintaining patient safety.
  • Clean assigned area; stock and replenish supplies and equipment as directed.
  • Answer signal lights, bells, or intercom system immediately to determine patients’ needs and assure needs are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Access additional assistance as indicated to meet patient needs.
  • Ensure positive customer relations interactions.
  • Respond promptly to customer needs, both patient and visitors.
  • Respond to requests for service and assistance in a positive manner.
