About The Position

Tele 4 is a 10-bed telemetry unit specializing in general medical surgical and telemetry patients. Tele 3 is a 22-bed telemetry unit specializing in general medical surgical and telemetry patients. Both units care for patients with conditions such as pneumonia, ESRD, Stroke, CHF, and chest pain, as well as post-operative patients from GU, Urology, Orthopedics, Bariatrics, and Heart Cath/PCI. The patient population has multiple co-morbidities and complex care needs, with patients admitted or transferred from ICU, ED, and PACU. The Patient Care Technician (PCT)/Unit Secretary, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or other licensed care team member, provides direct and indirect patient care. Unit secretaries also play a vital role in maintaining efficient operations within hospital units by providing administrative support and ensuring effective communication between staff and patients.

Requirements

  • Current Kentucky Nurse Aide Certification required or successful completion of first year of a Nursing program and validation of a clinical rotation consistent with level of education.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (must be obtained within 30 days of hire)

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients in personal hygiene activities such as bathing, dental and oral care, hair, and nail care.
  • Assist patients with bowel and bladder functions while maintaining dignity.
  • Records patient intake and output (I & O).
  • Collects, labels, and transports specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Assist patients with activity, turning and repositioning as indicated by provider order and in collaboration with the nurse.
  • Communicates pertinent patient information/findings to patient’s nurse.
  • Prepare patients, equipment, and supplies for specific procedures and provide manual assistance as needed.
  • Escort or transport patients to various hospital locations while maintaining patient safety.
  • Clean assigned area; stock and replenish supplies and equipment as directed.
  • Answers signal lights, bells, or intercom system immediately to determine patients’ needs and assures needs are addressed in a timely manner. Accesses additional assistance as indicated to meet patient needs.
  • Ensures positive customer relations interactions.
  • Responds promptly to customer needs, both patient and visitors.
  • Responds to requests for service and assistance in a positive manner.
