Unit secretaries are vital in maintaining efficient hospital unit operations by providing administrative support and ensuring effective communication between staff and patients. Responsibilities include assisting nursing with cardiac monitoring, care and maintenance of cardiac equipment, and performing direct patient care tasks such as assisting with personal hygiene, bowel and bladder functions, recording intake and output, collecting specimens, assisting with patient activity and repositioning, and communicating pertinent patient information to the nurse. The role also focuses on ensuring positive customer relations and responding promptly to the needs of patients and visitors.
