About The Position

The Patient Care Tech provides direct patient care under the supervision of a nurse, supporting licensed professional nurses caring for a team of patients. The role helps maintain a safe environment, gathers vital patient information, and reports changes that contribute to the nursing team’s assessment and response to patient needs.

The position supports adult medical, surgical, and telemetry patients on the Med Surg 5th Floor. The unit cares for patients before and after cardiac catheterizations, surgical patients, patients receiving PTCA or vascular interventions, and patients with respiratory or renal problems, as well as patients with newly placed tracheostomies. The position is 24 hours per week, with night shifts from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m., every other weekend, and holiday rotation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• No experience required.
• No supervisor experience required.

Nice To Haves

• Preferred experience as a CNA, nurse assistant, emergency medical technician, or surgical technician.
• Certified Nurse Assistant certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under nurse supervision, promoting patient- and family-centered care in a healing environment.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Perform vital signs, intake and output, fall and pressure-ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing as requested.
• Collect clinical data and information and report changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assist the nurse with patient and family education.
• Document patient care activities using correct medical terminology.
• Act as a 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensure supplies and equipment are available to meet patient needs.
• Participate in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in professional development.
