About The Position

This position performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities, including attending to patients’ personal, physical, and comfort needs, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. The Patient Care Tech provides high-quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
Ability to effectively communicate with staff and patients.
Ability to adapt to changing environments.

Prior patient care experience.

Responsibilities

Observe and immediately report patient concerns or changes in condition to a registered nurse.
Assist the Registered Nurse with admissions, transfers, discharges, and general patient care duties.
Record vital signs and oral intake and output; assist with personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures.
Assist with specimen collection and other activities for assigned patients.
Maintain a clean and safe environment to help prevent or control infections and support the safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
Report necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel in a timely manner according to departmental procedure.
Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.
Communicate nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or lack of understanding of diet changes, to the RN.
Assist the department with administrative tasks that support its operations.
Answer patient call bells and relay messages to appropriate personnel.
At facilities with specialty accreditation requirements, complete annual required education related to specialty accreditation.
