About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) in the Medical Surgical department at Texas Health Frisco is responsible for assisting patients with their care needs. This role involves collecting patient data, assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges, and providing for daily living activities. The PCT performs technical procedures safely, ensures a clean and safe patient environment, and anticipates the needs of patients, families, and visitors. The position is PRN/As needed, with variable 12-hour day shifts and weekend/holiday requirements. The Medical Surgical unit is a 30-bed unit that also serves telemetry patients, with a PCT ratio of 1:10 or 1:15. The role offers self-scheduling for work-life balance and opportunities for educational and career growth, with the possibility of floating between Medical Surgical and Surgical Inpatient units.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent required
  • PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP and NCCT or a THR approved program. Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire. Upon Hire Required or EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Military experience with medical training equivalent to EMT-B Upon Hire Required or Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program. Upon Hire Required or 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification Upon Hire Required
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required
  • CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Maintained Annually within 90 Days Required
  • Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical/Surgical hospital experience preferred
  • Nursing Students who do not complete course of study in nursing but having completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance to patient according to plan of care.
  • Collects patient data, identifies and reports significant findings to nurse.
  • Assists in admission/transfer/discharge.
  • Provides and revises patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences.
  • Performs technical procedures safely and proficiently.
  • Takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk.
  • Enters orders into computer or manual system if applicable.
  • Documents accurately and appropriately.
  • In collaboration/consultation with the nurse, adapts care to reflect patient population.
  • In collaboration/consultation with nurse, incorporates cultural/religious needs and beliefs into delivery of care.
  • Keeps patient environment clean and maintains safe environment.
  • Anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and takes action to meet those needs and rounds as appropriate.
