About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) on the Medical Surgical unit at Texas Health Frisco provides assistance to patients according to the plan of care, collects patient data, and identifies and reports significant findings to the nurse. This role assists in patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, and provides and revises patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences. The PCT performs technical procedures safely and proficiently, takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk, and documents accurately and appropriately. In collaboration with the nurse, the PCT adapts care to reflect the patient population, incorporates cultural/religious needs and beliefs, and maintains a clean and safe patient environment. They anticipate patient/family and visitor needs and take action to meet them, including appropriate rounding. The Medical Surgical/Telemetry Unit has 30 beds with a PCT ratio of 1:10 or 1:15. The role offers self-scheduling for work/life balance and opportunities for educational and career growth, with the ability to float as needed between Medical Surgical and Surgical Inpatient units.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent required
  • PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP and NCCT or a THR approved program. Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire. Upon Hire Required or EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Military experience with medical training equivalent to EMT-B Upon Hire Required or Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program. Upon Hire Required or 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification Upon Hire Required
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required
  • CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Maintained Annually within 90 Days Required
  • Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Nursing Students who do not complete course of study in nursing but having completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.
