The Patient Care Tech (PCT) for the Medical Surgical/Telemetry, 5A department at Texas Health Plano provides assistance to patients according to the plan of care. This role involves collecting patient data, identifying and reporting significant findings to the nurse, and assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges. The PCT also revises patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences, performs technical procedures safely and proficiently, and takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk. They are responsible for entering orders into the computer or manual system if applicable, documenting accurately and appropriately, and adapting care to reflect the patient population and incorporate cultural/religious needs and beliefs in collaboration with the nurse. The PCT also maintains a clean and safe patient environment, anticipates patient/family and visitor needs, and performs appropriate rounding. The department offers self-scheduling for work/life balance, opportunities for mentorship and career growth, and is supported by a highly engaged and experienced team of RNs, PCTs, and a charge RN, collaborating to care for a complex patient population of 29 medical/surgical telemetry patients.
