About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) for Medical Surgical at Texas Health Plano will provide assistance to patients according to the plan of care, collect patient data, and report significant findings to the nurse. This role assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges, and revises patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences. The PCT performs technical procedures safely and proficiently, takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk, and documents accurately. They adapt care to reflect the patient population, incorporate cultural/religious needs, and maintain a clean and safe patient environment. The PCT also anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and rounds as appropriate. This is a full-time position with day shifts (7A-7P), involving three 12-hour shifts per week for 36 hours. It includes rotating weekend and holiday requirements. The department offers self-scheduling, opportunities for educational and career growth, a Unit Based Council (UBC), and engaged leadership. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • CLIAFE - Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency required
  • TX CNA or PCT Training Program through NHA, NAHP and NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program required upon hire.
  • EMT – Emergency Medical Technician - Military experience with medic/medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) required upon hire
  • Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program required upon hire
  • 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification required upon hire
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required prior to providing independent patient care and must be maintained quarterly.
  • CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training within 90 Days upon hire required
  • Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Nursing Students who do not complete course of study in nursing but having completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not retain formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.
