About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) in the Medical Surgical/Telemetry, 5A department at Texas Health Plano brings passion to their work, contributing to a collaborative and supportive team environment. This role involves caring for a complex patient population of 29 medical/surgical telemetry patients. The PCT exhibits caring behaviors in working with patients and team members, and the department offers self-scheduling for work/life balance, mentorship, and career growth opportunities. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano, a 386-bed facility, has served North Texas communities since 1991, offering a wide range of specialties and advanced technology. It is a Level II Trauma Facility, the only provider in Collin County with Level IV NICU and Level IV Maternal Facility designations, a DNV-certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, and a Primary Heart Attack Center. The hospital is four-time Magnet-designated and features the DFW area's only AACN Beacon Gold adult intensive care unit. A new patient tower and campus renovations are underway to expand services.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • CLIAFE Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency Required
  • PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program. Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire. Upon Hire Required
  • Or EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) Upon Hire Required
  • Or Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program Upon Hire Required
  • Or 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification. Upon Hire Required
  • And BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required
  • And CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Maintained Annually 90 Days Required
  • Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Nursing Students who do not complete course of study in nursing but having completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to patient according to plan of care.
  • Collects patient data, identifies and reports significant findings to nurse.
  • Assists in admission/transfer/discharge.
  • Provides and revises patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences.
  • Performs technical procedures safely and proficiently.
  • Takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk.
  • Enters orders into computer or manual system if applicable.
  • Documents accurately and appropriately.
  • In collaboration/consultation with the nurse, adapts care to reflect patient population.
  • In collaboration/consultation with nurse, incorporates cultural/religious needs and beliefs into delivery of care.
  • Keeps patient environment clean and maintains safe environment.
  • Anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and takes action to meet those needs and rounds as appropriate.
