The Patient Care Technician - OR provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner. This role involves providing safe and direct care to patients in their assigned unit, making age-appropriate adjustments as needed, and monitoring patients’ conditions to provide updates to the health care team. The technician will provide direct and indirect care to patients with and without medical/surgical complications to meet their comfort, personal hygiene, and safety needs. They will assist with patient transfers, positioning, and preparation in the OR under the direction of anesthesia and/or nursing staff, and in accordance with VCUHS Nursing and Hospital policy and procedure. The role also includes maintaining a safe, clean, and stocked environment, managing supplies, equipment, and sterilization, and contributing to efficient patient care by preparing necessary supplies, suture, and equipment for cases. Daily safety checklists for emergency equipment will be completed. The technician will contribute to the patient experience by accurately identifying patients, observing safety goals, and reporting patient responses or incidents. Attendance at mandatory in-services and trainings is required, along with adherence to online training requirements and patient safety initiatives. Establishing and maintaining courteous and effective rapport with patients, visitors, co-workers, and other members of the healthcare team is essential.
