About The Position

The Patient Care Support Technician (PCST) works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or department leader to provide patient handling assistance in designated departments at Enloe Medical Center. Duties include lifting, turning, transferring, and transporting patients at the Esplanade site between units, testing areas, the Emergency Department, and Surgery as assigned. The PCST works independently and with other hospital personnel to complete scheduled and unscheduled patient handling tasks, using Enloe’s patient handling equipment. The role also includes managing the equipment by cleaning it and ensuring it is available and in proper working order, and instructing nursing staff in its use as appropriate. All duties are performed with a customer-service orientation and attention to patient satisfaction.

Requirements

Current CPR certification.
Technical competence and excellent communication skills, with sensitivity toward hospitalized patients and their families.
Knowledge and skills in basic body mechanics and safe patient lifting and transfer techniques, with the ability to learn Enloe’s patient handling equipment.
Ability to train staff in the use of patient handling equipment.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Strength assessment and functional capacity evaluation are required before an employment offer.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Responsibilities

Assist with patient lifting, turning, and transferring in designated departments.
Transport patients at the Esplanade site to, from, and between units, testing areas, the Emergency Department, and Surgery as assigned.
Perform scheduled and unscheduled patient lifts, turns, transports, and transfers, independently or with other hospital personnel.
Use Enloe Medical Center patient handling equipment.
Clean and manage patient handling and transport equipment, ensuring it is available and in proper working order.
Provide instruction to general nursing staff on the use of patient handling equipment as appropriate.
Respond to frequent calls in a timely manner and perform duties in a customer-service-oriented manner.
