About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) II provides direct patient care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse in a medical-surgical unit at Memorial City Hospital. The role includes identifying and responding to abnormal findings, escalating changes in a patient’s condition to the nurse, supporting activities of daily living, and assisting with elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, and mobility. The PCT practices patient- and family-centered care and typically reports to the Unit Manager. The scheduled shift is 7:00 pm to 7:00 am.

Requirements

One year of prior patient care experience, such as Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or Patient Care Technician experience, or a similar role.
Proficiency in all PCT I and II core competencies as noted in Memorial Hermann’s PCT Competency Based Tool, validated by Memorial Hermann Clinical Education no later than the end of orientation.
Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association within 90 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

Prior patient care experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
Basic Life Support certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
Perform and document patient care activities, including vital signs, visual monitoring, hygiene, toileting, mobility, nutrition, bathing, and other activities of daily living as needed.
Document information accurately and in a timely manner, and report unusual changes or findings to the nurse.
Help maintain a safe and clean working environment.
Follow safe work practices and safety rules, help prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, participate in department safety programs, and adhere to Memorial Hermann policies and procedures.
Obtain and prepare laboratory specimens as prescribed within the scope of the role.
Help orient new employees as appropriate.
Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors while meeting applicable time management, supply management, productivity, and service-quality expectations.
Meet mandatory and continuing education and skills-competency requirements, and support department-based goals.
Model service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences for patients and the workforce.
Perform other duties as assigned.
