About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in the operating room assists nursing staff with delegated tasks of patient care that support and complement nursing practice under the supervision of a registered nurse. The PCA carries out designated skills within the functions of a certified nursing assistant, as defined by the Arizona State Board of Nursing, and communicates information reflecting patient status and delegated tasks or functions. This position has no direct patient care. Flexible hours may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire and valid for 90 days or longer from the start date.
• Must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of Block 1 in Nursing.
• Medical Assistant (MA) qualification.
• Nursing Assistant (NA) qualification.
• Six months of healthcare-setting experience within the last year.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and cleans central work areas, patient rooms, and patient equipment.
• Assists with operating room turnover, including cleaning and removing trash.
• Manages department supply inventory as delegated by an RN or surgical team.
• Retrieves blood products from the Blood Bank as delegated by an RN.
• Retrieves specimens and transports them to the appropriate laboratory area as delegated by an RN.
• Retrieves patient beds and equipment from designated areas as delegated by an RN.
• Demonstrates flexibility to meet department needs, including floating when necessary.
• Assists nursing staff with delegated tasks under the supervision of a registered nurse and communicates information reflecting patient status and delegated tasks or functions.
