Patient Care Assistant - Main OR - PCA
About The Position
The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in the operating room assists nursing staff with delegated patient-care tasks that support and complement nursing practice under the supervision of a registered nurse. At a minimum, the PCA performs designated skills within the functions of a certified nursing assistant, as defined by the Arizona State Board of Nursing, and communicates information reflecting patient status and delegated tasks or functions. This position has no direct patient care. The incumbent works flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon hire and must be valid for at least 90 days from the start date.
- Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
Nice To Haves
- Completion of Block 1 in Nursing.
- Medical Assistant (MA) experience in an operating room.
- Nursing Assistant (NA) experience in an operating room.
- Six months of experience in a healthcare setting within the last year.
Responsibilities
- Organizes and cleans central work areas, patient rooms, and patient equipment.
- Assists with operating room turnover, including cleaning and removing trash.
- Manages inventory of department supplies as delegated by the RN or surgical team.
- Retrieves blood products from the Blood Bank as delegated by the RN.
- Retrieves specimens and transports them to the appropriate laboratory area as delegated by the RN.
- Retrieves patient beds and equipment from designated areas as delegated by the RN.
- Demonstrates flexibility to meet department needs, including floating when necessary.
- Communicates data reflecting patient status and delegated tasks or functions.
