About The Position

Working under the direction of licensed personnel, the Patient Care Assistant helps patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting. The role also involves taking and documenting vital signs and other measurements, assisting patients with movement and repositioning, and reporting health concerns to nurses. This is a per diem, onsite position at The Brigham and Women's Hospital, 75 Francis Street, with a rotating shift.

Requirements

• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Strong patient and customer service skills.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Computer proficiency to work efficiently with electronic medical records.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) credential preferred.
• National certification as a Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
• National certification as a Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician preferred.
• New Hampshire Licensed Nursing Assistant credential preferred.
• 0–1 year of experience working in patient care or elder care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Measure and record vital signs, height, weight, intake, and output accurately and within established time frames or as requested.
• Complete required documentation in the medical record.
• Interact effectively with patients and their families.
• Assist patients with hygiene and daily activities, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and feeding.
• Help patients turn and reposition in bed and move between a bed and wheelchair as needed.
• Listen to patients' health concerns and report them to nurses.
