About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant works under the direction of licensed personnel to assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting. The role also involves measuring and documenting vital signs and other patient information, helping patients move and reposition, and reporting health concerns to nurses. This is an onsite, 40-hour-per-week role at The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc., located at 75 Francis Street. The scheduled shift is evening.

Requirements

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Strong patient and customer service skills.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Proficiency with computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
National Certified Medical Assistant certification.
National Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician certification.
New Hampshire Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) credential.
0–1 year of experience working in patient care or elder care.

Responsibilities

Measure and document patients’ temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, height, and weight, as well as intake and output, accurately and within established time frames or as requested.
Complete required documentation in the medical record.
Interact effectively with patients and their families.
Assist patients with basic hygiene and activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and eating.
Help patients turn and reposition in bed and move between a bed and wheelchair as needed.
Listen to patients’ health concerns and report them to nurses.
