About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant works under the direction of licensed personnel to support patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting. The role also includes measuring vital signs and other patient information, documenting care in the medical record, assisting patients with movement and repositioning, and communicating patient concerns to nurses. This is an onsite position at Brigham and Women's Hospital, located at 75 Francis Street. The scheduled workweek is 40 hours, with an evening shift. Patient care is required.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred; experience cannot be substituted for a degree.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Strong patient and customer service skills.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Computer proficiency to work efficiently with electronic medical records.

Nice To Haves

Basic Life Support (BLS) credential preferred.
Nationally certified Medical Assistant credential preferred.
National Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician certification preferred.
New Hampshire Licensed Nursing Assistant credential preferred.
0–1 year of experience working in patient care or elder care preferred.

Responsibilities

Measure and accurately record vital signs, weights, heights, intake, and output within established time frames or as requested.
Complete required documentation in the medical record.
Interact effectively with patients and their families.
Assist patients with basic hygiene, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and feeding.
Help patients turn and reposition in bed and move between a bed and wheelchair as needed.
Listen to patients’ health concerns and report them to nurses.
