About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant works under the direction of licensed personnel to assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, and eating. The role also includes measuring and recording patient vital signs and other observations, documenting care in the medical record, and communicating with patients, families, and nurses. This is an onsite position at The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc., at 45 Francis Street, with 24 scheduled hours per week and a rotating shift. A $750 sign-on bonus is offered to eligible new employees hired into PCA positions.

Requirements

• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Strong patient/customer service skills.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Proficiency with computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One year of previous obstetrical PCA experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) credential preferred.
• National Certified Medical Assistant credential preferred.
• National Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician certification preferred.
• New Hampshire Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) credential preferred.

Responsibilities

• Measure and record vital signs, height, weight, intake, and output accurately and within established time frames or as requested.
• Complete required documentation in the medical record.
• Interact effectively with patients and their families.
• Assist patients with hygiene and activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and feeding.
• Help patients turn and reposition in bed and move between a bed and wheelchair as needed.
• Listen to patients' health concerns and report them to nurses.
