Patient Care Assistant/Patient Care Technician - Med/Surg (PRN - As Needed)
About The Position
Uvalde Memorial Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) or Patient Care Technician (PCT) to support its Med/Surg and ICU teams. The role provides hands-on assistance to patients and supports nurses in maintaining a safe, clean, and responsive patient care environment. PCA/PCT responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living, recording patient measurements and intake/output, performing blood glucose checks, helping patients transfer and ambulate, communicating changes in condition to the nursing team, and following infection-control and patient-safety procedures. For Patient Care Technicians, additional duties may include EKGs or telemetry support and specimen collection or phlebotomy, depending on training, competency, and unit needs. The position is PRN (as needed) at the hospital in Uvalde, Texas.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current BLS (Healthcare Provider).
- At least one of the following: completion of a CNA program; CMA certification; one year of an LVN or RN program; or at least one year of related healthcare experience as a nurse aide.
Nice To Haves
- Phlebotomy certification preferred.
- EKG certification preferred.
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, hygiene, mobility, and meals.
- Take and document vital signs, weights, and intake/output.
- Perform blood glucose checks (Accuchecks).
- Support safe patient transfers and ambulation, using lifts or transfer equipment as needed.
- Communicate changes in patient condition to the nursing team.
- Follow infection-control practices and patient-safety procedures.
- For Patient Care Technicians, additional duties may include EKGs or telemetry support and specimen collection or phlebotomy, based on training, competency, and unit needs.
