About The Position

This position works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/LPN and Nurse Manager/Director, providing personal care to hospital patients and maintaining their environment. This includes patients requiring special precautions and performing specified treatments. The role requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills for age-appropriate patient care, understanding principles of growth and development, and promoting a safe work environment aligned with national patient safety initiatives. The Patient Care Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant will demonstrate understanding of technology systems for patient data collection, ensure availability of necessary resources, maintain a clean and orderly work/patient environment, and follow the plan of care including performing treatments and procedures competently under the direction of an RN/LPN. They will provide consistent, competent, and ethical care within legal standards, maintaining patient privacy and respecting their value system. The role involves following verbal and written instructions, accurately completing required documentation, and participating positively in training and supporting team members, volunteers, and students.

Requirements

  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required)
  • Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP)
  • In lieu of CNA certification, will accept EMT-B (Basic) from the Virginia Department of Health Professions or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, or Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA), or Medical Assistant Program Graduate, or Currently enrolled in LPN or RN diploma or degree program with at least 80 clinical hours completed.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year Prior experience in acute health care setting (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection.
  • Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintains clean, safe and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN/LPN.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow the plan of care that assures patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care, within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support for the patient’s value system.
  • Provides care consistent with both verbal and/or written instructions.
  • Demonstrates competent understanding of assigned plans of care within appropriate scope of practice and responsibilities as directed by the RN/LPN to include accurately completing all required documentation.
  • Participates positively in training and support of all team members, volunteers and students as needed.
