Patient Care Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant ORTHO Unit Full Time-Nights
About The Position
This is a Full Time Nights position (7pm-7am) for a Patient Care Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant on the ORTHO Unit. The role involves providing personal care to patients and maintaining their environment, including those needing special precautions. Responsibilities include performing specified tasks where competency is validated, such as simple wound care, EKGs, peripheral IV removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting. The position requires demonstrating knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding growth and development principles, and promoting a safe work environment. The role also involves using technology systems for patient data collection into EMR, following the plan of care under the direction of an RN, accurately completing clinical and quality documentation, ensuring resource availability, maintaining a clean and orderly work/patient environment, and assisting with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
Requirements
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire (Required)
- Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP)
- In lieu of CNA certification, will accept EMT-B (Basic) from the Virginia Department of Health Professions or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, or Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA), or Medical Assistant Program Graduate, or Currently enrolled in LPN or RN diploma or degree program with at least 80 clinical hours completed.

Responsibilities
- Provide personal care to patients and maintain their environment, including those needing special precautions.
- Perform specified tasks where competency is validated, such as simple wound care (i.e., cleaning of abrasions/laceration), EKGs, peripheral IV removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in the assigned unit.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provide the care needed as described according to the departmental policy and procedure.
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment for staff and customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.
- Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection into EMR.
- Demonstrate the ability to follow the plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under the direction of an RN.
- Accurately complete all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.
- Demonstrate the ability to take direction from the charge nurse to help admit, discharge, or transfer patients in a timely and efficient manner.
