About The Position

This part-time day position on the ORTHO Unit involves providing personal care to hospital patients and maintaining their environment, including those needing special precautions. The role operates under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/LPN and Nurse Manager/Director. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles and provide age-appropriate care according to departmental policies. A key aspect of this role is promoting and maintaining a safe work environment for both staff and patients, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.

Requirements

  • Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire(Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required) or CPR/BLS Instructor - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required)

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year Prior experience in acute health care setting (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection.
  • Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintains clean, safe and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN/LPN.
  • This may include the following procedures dependent upon unit/facility competency requirements such as enemas, vital signs, ice application, compresses, perineal care, rectal tube, sitz bath, unsterile sites, strain urine for stones, specimen collection, etc.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow the plan of care that assures patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care, within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support for the patient’s value system.
  • Provides care consistent with both verbal and/or written instructions.
  • Demonstrates competent understanding of assigned plans of care within appropriate scope of practice and responsibilities as directed by the RN/LPN to include accurately completing all required documentation.
  • Participates positively in training and support of all team members, volunteers and students as needed.
