About The Position

The Patient Accounts Specialist will receive patient phone calls and assist in resolution while maintaining professionalism, with a customer service approach. This role involves accurately entering patient payments, adjustments, and refunds as received electronically, by phone, check, or otherwise. The specialist will demonstrate an understanding of Electronic Practice Management (EPM) and Electronic Health Records (EHR) within NextGen software as it relates to insurance, demographics, and release of information associated with the daily functions of the Business Office. A key aspect of this role is understanding the entire patient process from appointment scheduling, front desk procedures, coding, billing, payment application, and collections. The specialist will verify insurance coverage prior to patient appointments utilizing reporting from an external vendor (Healthia), maintain aging accounts, and work closely with patients to establish payment plans. This position requires close collaboration with internal and external parties (patients, primary care clinics, collection agencies, coworkers) to address and resolve concerns while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Responsibilities include weekly rotating job tasks such as manually posting patient payments, posting and mailing patient refund checks, processing patient credit card payments, Healthia work log tasks, and additional clerical tasks. Any and all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Responsibilities
