About The Position

MaineGeneral Health is seeking a Patient Accounts Specialist - Accounts Receivable to join their team at the Hathaway Center in Waterville. This role is for an experienced Finance or Health Care Revenue Cycle professional who is passionate about problem-solving and interacting with diverse individuals. The position is responsible for managing patient billing issues and resolutions, which may include setting up payment arrangements, providing price estimates, pursuing collections, and addressing initial care concerns, all while ensuring an exceptional patient experience. The team is highly supportive, collaborative, and focused on continuous improvement. The department leader is committed to staff engagement and removing obstacles to success.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in all interactions and ensuring customer issues are fully resolved
  • Background in finance or health care revenue cycle
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, structured environment, handling large call volumes
  • Working knowledge of insurance programs
  • Understanding of HIPAA guidelines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, Teams, Outlook, Word and Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Experience navigating payer websites and medical billing software programs preferred
  • 5+ yrs extensive customer service experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage large amounts of incoming calls
  • Build relationships and trust with patients through open and interactive communication
  • Receive and respond to customer inquiries, provide appropriate solutions in an accurate and timely manner
  • Review patient account history and contact appropriate internal/external resources as necessary to investigate and resolve patient account issues
  • Refer/escalate issues to appropriate personnel as necessary
  • Document/note patient accounts regarding identified issues and responses taken
  • Provide assistance/counseling regarding setting up payment plans and resolving billing/collection errors
  • Perform other account-related special projects
