About The Position

The Patient Accounting Representative supports surgery billing and professional fee reimbursement operations. The role processes refunds, captures and enters information needed for provider charges and claims, responds to billing inquiries, fulfills information requests, prepares reports, and completes precertification for scheduled procedures as needed. The representative also works with Corporate and Department management to maintain and follow policies and procedures supporting the Compliance Program for Professional Fee Reimbursement. Other duties may be assigned or requested.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of billing experience in a health care organization.

Nice To Haves

• Experience and knowledge of the claim denial/accounts receivable process.
• Working knowledge of Cerner Practice Management software.

Responsibilities

• Review and process refund requests.
• Use electronic and manual systems to identify and capture source documentation needed for coding and generating provider charges and claims.
• Perform data entry for billing and claims functions, including charge entry and payment posting.
• Answer inquiries from patients, insurance carriers, and other parties to assist with claim submission, payment, or clarification of claims and billing issues.
• Fulfill routine information requests using sources such as the practice management system, archived or scanned billing documents, and supporting documentation for prior charges.
• Provide monthly and ad-hoc reports using the practice management system or an available external reporting solution.
• Perform precertification for scheduled procedures as needed, including communicating balances due to patients.
• Work with Corporate and Department management to develop, maintain, and follow policies and procedures supporting the Department’s and Corporation’s Compliance Program for Professional Fee Reimbursement.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
