The Patient Access Specialist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NMHC, adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. This role is responsible for consistently practicing a Patients First philosophy and adhering to high standards of customer service, responding to questions and concerns, and forwarding extraordinary issues as necessary. The specialist maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA regulations and provides exceptional customer service to patients, establishing a positive first impression of Northwestern Medicine. They interact with various hospital departments and physician offices to schedule and direct patients, perform medical necessity checks, inform patients of financial account issues, and complete out-of-pocket estimations. The role also involves providing training, managing work schedules efficiently, cross-training between departments, participating in Quality Assurance reviews, and using service recovery skills. Communication and collaboration are key, involving communication with patients regarding referrals, collecting authorization numbers, fostering a constructive environment, attending meetings, communicating customer satisfaction issues, demonstrating teamwork, and interacting with internal customers to provide excellent support. The specialist must accommodate all levels of communication ability.
