About The Position

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus – Transplant Services is seeking a dedicated Patient Access Specialist. This full-time position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The specialist adheres to Inova Health System’s Service Excellence standards while admitting and scheduling patients, verifying insurance, and providing financial counseling. The role also includes patient intake and registration, documentation management, case coordination, patient communication, referrals, and collaboration with other teams.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of patient access experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage complex patient intake, registration, and documentation cases; resolve errors, confirm authorizations, validate documents, and index them.
• Prepare schedules, track records, and navigate multiple systems.
• Coordinate documentation and follow up on case-related tasks.
• Assess insurance coverage and initiate financial assistance.
• Apply payer-specific rules, resolve insurance issues, and identify contract limitations.
• Resolve moderate patient concerns and track follow-ups.
• Educate patients about kiosks and report kiosk usage trends.
• Coordinate with departments, tailor communications, and support and advocate for patients.
• Validate insurance and track referral status.
• Schedule specialty visits and coordinate patient preparation.
• Coordinate transportation for patients with special needs.
• Resolve minor chart issues and assist with release of information.
• Provide documentation to utilization review teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
