About The Position

Patient Access Services Registrars are the first point of contact for patients and visitors seeking services at Hartford HealthCare facilities. They greet and assist patients, assess their needs, communicate points of intervention, and arrange interpretation when language barriers arise. The role includes registration and admissions, verifying patient identity and insurance eligibility, collecting copayments and other patient financial liability, providing deductible and procedure cost estimates, and ensuring authorizations are on file. Registrars help meet hospital and department financial goals while following patient privacy, safety, billing, and payment requirements. The position also involves preparing patient charts, documenting patient visits, directing visitors, answering calls, and meeting daily, weekly, and monthly productivity standards. Registrars use sound judgment to address concerns, resolve complaints, and de-escalate difficult interactions. They may coordinate with caregivers, family members, health care representatives, or conservators to complete registration and obtain treatment consent. This is an entry-level role requiring minimal healthcare experience and customer-service focus. Initial training lasts six months, followed by ongoing education and training to maintain proficiency and develop coverage across other registration areas.
