About The Position

The Patient Access Representative works in the Southview department at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham. The role communicates with patients, participants, and staff to schedule prescribed procedures accurately and efficiently, performs patient registration and reception duties, and collects and enters demographic, insurance, and clinical information. The representative helps resolve questions about procedure type, date, or location; coordinates schedules and insurance pre-certification or authorization activities; and counsels patients, participants, or their representatives about pre-service requirements and instructions. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Eligible positions offer benefits including paid time off, paid parental leave, an Associate Assistance Program, and tuition reimbursement.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
Required professional licensure or certification may be used in place of education or experience, if applicable.

Responsibilities

Communicate with patients, participants, and staff to accurately schedule patients for prescribed procedures.
Perform clerical and reception duties associated with patient registration.
Gather demographic, insurance, and clinical information from patients and enter it into the appropriate database.
Find appropriate resources to resolve issues about the type, date, or location of prescribed procedures.
Schedule procedures to use the patient's time and clinical resources efficiently.
Coordinate and communicate schedules.
Assist with activities related to insurance pre-certification and authorization.
Counsel patients, participants, or their representatives about pre-service requirements and instructions.
