Admissions Coordinator - ER
About The Position
The Patient Access Representative works onsite at UAB St. Vincent’s East Free Standing ER in Trussville, Alabama. The role provides patient-facing registration and access support, including greeting patients, registering and checking them in, verifying insurance, explaining financial responsibilities, and processing payments. It also handles inpatient and observation admissions and associated documentation, escalates complex registrations, and supports the orientation and training of new associates. This is a full-time onsite position scheduled Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Travel is listed as up to 10%.
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED, or 2+ years of relevant work experience.
- 0–2+ years of experience working in a hospital, medical, clinical, or customer service environment.
Nice To Haves
- Ability to type a minimum of 35 WPM.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and provide exceptional, compassionate customer service.
- Perform accurate registration, arrival, and check-in functions.
- Collect complete demographic and insurance information and obtain required patient signatures.
- Conduct real-time insurance eligibility and benefits verification.
- Explain financial responsibilities, collect patient portions, and perform cashiering and collections; refer patients to Financial Counseling when needed.
- Handle inpatient and observation admission processes, including network benefit verification and required Medicare documentation.
- Escalate complex registrations as appropriate.
- Mentor and precept new associates and assist with orientation and training.
- Consistently meet or exceed individual performance goals.
- Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to insurance rules and regulations.
- Use multiple computer systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
