About The Position

This is a Part Time position with rotating days, requiring weekend availability (Every Other Weekend - EOW) and working 48 hours bi-weekly from 11 am to 7:30 pm. The role involves Inpatient Follow Up duties. The Patient Access Representative is responsible for various tasks to support departmental efficiencies, including scheduling, registration, patient pre-admission and admission, reception, and discharge functions. A key aspect of the role is obtaining complete and accurate patient demographic information and employing proper, compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during, and after the date of service.

Requirements

Minimum typing skills of 35 wpm.
Demonstrated working knowledge of PC/CRT/printer.
Customer service skills and experience.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to receive and express detailed information through oral and written communications.
Must be able to perform essential job duties in at least two Patient Access service areas including the Emergency Department.
High School Diploma or GED required.
0 – 1 year in a Customer Service role.
Must be available to work hours and days as needed based on departmental/system demands.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of function and relationships within a hospital environment preferred.
Understanding of Third Party Payor requirements preferred.
Understanding of Compliance standards preferred.
Some college coursework is preferred.
0 – 1 year administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related area preferred.

Responsibilities

Greeting patients following Conifer Standards of Care and providing world-class customer service.
Completing full patient registration at the date of service.
Adhering to financial and cash control policies and procedures.
Thoroughly explaining and securing Hospital & patient legal forms (i.e., Advance Directives, Conditions of services, Consent for treatment, Important Message from Medicare, EMTALA, etc.).
Scanning Protected Health Information and creating/filing patient information packets/folders for upcoming Hospital services.
Assisting with scheduling diagnostic procedures, including data entry into the scheduling system and providing appointment instructions.
Educating patients about patient financial liabilities and employing proper, compliant patient liability collection techniques.
Performing Hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry.
Securing medical necessity checks/verification in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid services.
Verifying insurance, benefits, coverage, and eligibility.
Completing assigned registration financial clearance work lists and activities.
Obtaining insurance authorizations for scheduled and unscheduled Hospital services.
Securing inpatient visit notification to payors.
Assisting with scheduling and coordinating post-discharge care for patients.
Using proper negotiation techniques to professionally collect money owed by patients/guarantors.
Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external clients.
Appropriately interpreting physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards while maintaining Conifer Standards of Care.
