Patient Access Associate
About The Position
Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is hiring a full-time Patient Access Associate to support multiple departments. The associate follows Inova Health System’s Service Excellence standards while admitting and scheduling patients, verifying insurance, and providing financial counseling. The role is scheduled Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The position supports patient intake and registration, administrative and technology operations, case management coordination, financial counseling, insurance and contract coordination, patient inquiries, kiosk check-in, referrals, scheduling, transport requests, health information management coordination, utilization review coordination, and compliance with applicable requirements. Additional duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.

- One year of customer service experience or one year of experience in a healthcare setting.
Responsibilities
- Register patients, verify identity and insurance, collect basic information, enter demographic information, and scan forms.
- Scan documents, answer phones, and use electronic medical record (EMR) and eligibility tools.
- Notify case managers and document referrals.
- Provide estimates and collect payments.
- Verify basic insurance eligibility and coverage.
- Answer routine questions and escalate issues.
- Assist with patient check-in and troubleshoot basic patient kiosk issues.
- Provide appointment and billing information and communicate with empathy.
- Document and route referrals.
- Schedule routine appointments.
- Request routine transport and confirm details.
- Flag duplicate records and scan identification for Health Information Management coordination.
- Flag cases needing utilization review.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other applicable federal and state regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
