About The Position

The ideal candidate will bring a confident and proactive approach to enhancing Aviva’s leadership and performance culture. This role is pivotal in driving impactful HR people priorities that align with our organizational goals and cultivate a positive workplace environment. In this role, you coach with curiosity our people leaders across Canada, with a bias to our Quebec leaders. You are a member of a team of Advice Partners who are accountable to support people leaders with their confidence in conducting employee performance conversations, employee performance improvement matters including documenting the case within an in-house case management database. Employment decisions are managed with the business in accordance with our Company practice. On occasion, be able to facilitate HR topics conversation to drive our performance culture. Work in partnership with other members of our Human Resources team to ensure understanding of administrative processes to support the business. This includes understanding of our disability benefit offerings to support complex employment matters. The People Advice Partner will ensure compliance with applicable employment legislation, be interested in employment policy, interpret policy and communicate with confidence guidance for our people leaders. Leverage data in our People Management system (Workday) and insights to deliver people priorities and be part of a team whose purpose is to have the best leaders in very leadership role for our Aviva people. You will be required to work in alignment with our Smart Working policy which includes working in the office a minimum of 50% each week. We create an environment for our people to have flexibility while meeting the in office attendance requirement.

Requirements

  • 7 + years of experience in an HR Advisor, Employee relations specialist role.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in human resources, or Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of French and English is required to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with our customers, partners and other Aviva teams located across Canada.
  • Passion for employee relations, being okay with the administrative elements of case management and influencing people leaders to make the right people decisions for our business.
  • Communicate with confidence, impact and care.
  • Work collaboratively across the People function and foster a one team mindset.
  • Demonstrate ability to connect with a diverse group of people and positively influence employee decisions.
  • Prior experience leading workplace investigations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Experience with Workday or other People systems software, Service Now or other case management system etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Dealing with employment matters related to Disability Management, a definite asset.
  • Experience in the financial services industry.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on a variety of people matters; employee relations, performance management, workplace conduct, employee wellbeing, employment policy, people and business organizational change that aligns with our Aviva values, policies, business and people priorities.
  • Proven understanding of employment and workplace policies to provide guidance, information to leaders and participate in legislative compliance exercises in support of our employment obligations.
  • Proficiency of Bill 96, French Language requirements, Loi des norms du travail, Civil and Common Law.
  • Collaborate and communicate with people leaders to enable leader confidence and accountability to achieve performance outcomes. Communication is via phone, face to face, MS Teams and/or email.
  • Respond to leader general inquiries or performance matters centrally and record cases in our case management system.
  • Conduct workplace assessments and/or investigations, to ensure people are performing in alignment with our Company policies e.g., Respect at Work, Business Ethics.
  • Facilitate, deliver leader workshops or huddle topics such as; Effective Performance Management, Attendance management, Wellbeing.
  • Understand Aviva’s business and engage in relevant work that aligns with our "people" and "business" priorities.
  • Maintain a strong local presence with teams to understand their realities, foster positive working relationships, and support local initiatives that strengthen cohesion, engagement, and a sense of belonging.
