About The Position

This posting is for a Part-Time Professor for the Introduction to Computing I (ITI1120D) course during the Fall 2026 semester at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Engineering. The course focuses on problem-solving, algorithm design, and basic principles of software engineering, including variable types, control structures, data structures, and an introduction to objects. The instruction will be delivered in person.

Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of course subject matter, demonstrated by having taught similar or related courses, or demonstrated by relevant work experience.
  • Regular applicants must have a doctorate and it should be in a field related to the course (especially in the case where the course is more specialized), if not, they must have a relevant work experience in a field related to the course, after having obtained their Ph.D.
  • Competence in a second language: Passive.
  • Must successfully complete all mandatory legislated training.
  • Must be a Canadian or permanent resident (priority given).

Responsibilities

  • Teach Introduction to Computing I (ITI1120D) in person.
  • Problem solving and algorithm design.
  • Teach basic principles of software engineering: structure decomposition, documentation, testing and debugging.
  • Teach variable types, expressions and assignment.
  • Teach conditional and iterative control structures.
  • Teach modules and parameter passing.
  • Teach recursion.
  • Teach fundamental data structures: arrays, strings, matrices, records.
  • Teach introduction to objects.
  • Provide examples of applications in various disciplines, including engineering.
