About The Position

This posting is for a Part-Time Professor for the Introduction to Computing I (ITI1120D) course during the Fall 2026 semester at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Engineering. The course focuses on problem-solving, algorithm design, and basic principles of software engineering, including variable types, control structures, data structures, and an introduction to objects. The instruction will be delivered in person.

Requirements

Excellent knowledge of course subject matter, demonstrated by having taught similar or related courses, or demonstrated by relevant work experience.
Regular applicants must have a doctorate and it should be in a field related to the course (especially in the case where the course is more specialized), if not, they must have a relevant work experience in a field related to the course, after having obtained their Ph.D.
Competence in a second language: Passive.
Must successfully complete all mandatory legislated training.
Must be a Canadian or permanent resident (priority given).

Responsibilities

Teach Introduction to Computing I (ITI1120D) in person.
Problem solving and algorithm design.
Teach basic principles of software engineering: structure decomposition, documentation, testing and debugging.
Teach variable types, expressions and assignment.
Teach conditional and iterative control structures.
Teach modules and parameter passing.
Teach recursion.
Teach fundamental data structures: arrays, strings, matrices, records.
Teach introduction to objects.
Provide examples of applications in various disciplines, including engineering.
