About The Position

This position will work part-time as the vocal music instructor and Bearcat Choir sponsor at the Horace Mann Laboratory School, which includes grades Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. The role involves teaching vocal music at the elementary (K-6) level half-time, utilizing effective instructional practice and deep theoretical knowledge to support teacher candidates' learning and development through mentoring and providing in-depth feedback and assistance to teachers-in-training. The instructor will also serve as the Bearcat Choir Sponsor for a 3rd-6th grade musical group that performs at various events throughout the year. Responsibilities include developing and implementing curriculum and lesson plans focusing on a child-centered, engaging, and learning environment, supporting, organizing, and maintaining an enriching, joyful, rigorous, and authentic music experience for children in grades K-6, communicating regularly and proactively with children and families, collaborating with staff members to integrate music across curricular areas, continuously improving effectiveness in all instructional practices and using feedback to make productive positive changes in performance, completing all administrative requirements before given deadlines, and participating in required programs as needed throughout the year.

Requirements

  • B.S., B.A. or B.M.E. degree and current certification for teaching music at the elementary level
  • Certification for teaching in Missouri
  • Experience in teaching early childhood and elementary students
  • Experience in supervising music programs

Responsibilities

  • Teach vocal music at the elementary (K-6) level half-time
  • Utilize effective instructional practice and deep theoretical knowledge in order to support teacher candidates learning and development through mentoring and providing in-depth feedback and assistance to teachers-in-training
  • Serve as Bearcat Choir Sponsor (3rd – 6th grade musical group that performs at various events throughout the year, including but not limited to, the International Flag Raising, Thanksgiving Luncheon, Holiday Tree Lighting, etc.)
  • Develop and implement curriculum and lesson plans focusing on a child centered, engaging, and learning environment
  • Support, organize, and maintain an enriching, joyful, rigorous, and authentic music experience for children in grades K-6
  • Communicate regularly and proactively with children and families
  • Collaborate with staff members integrating music across curricular areas
  • Work to continuously improve effectiveness in all instructional practices and use feedback to make productive positive changes in performance
  • Complete all administrative requirements before given deadlines
  • Participate in required programs as needed throughout the year (including but not limited to Back to School Open House, Bearcat Choir events, Music Programs, school events, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
