About The Position

KIPP Columbus is seeking a Middle School Music Teacher to join their team for the upcoming school year. This role is part of the Learning Links Team, which teaches subjects including Music, Social Justice, Physical Education, Computer Science, Art Technology, and Health. The teacher will be responsible for creating authentic and meaningful learning experiences for students through rigorous content and a joyful classroom culture. KIPP Columbus is a tuition-free public school network with a strong focus on academic excellence, community partnerships, and student well-being, aiming to educate nearly 4,000 students on its campus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Current Ohio Teaching License or willingness and ability to pursue certification by start date Required
  • 1 or more years of lead teaching experience, or degree in the content area you would teach Required
  • Belief that outstanding school leaders, staff, and teachers can achieve excellent outcomes for all students.
  • Ability to persevere with a sense of optimism, strong problem solving skills, and desire to learn and grow in a collaborative professional learning community.

Responsibilities

  • Craft, internalize, and implement high-quality, challenging, and engaging lesson plans teaching Music, Marching Band, and or Orchestra- assessing student progress, and organizing concerts and other musical events.
  • Track student growth in reading music overtime- re-teaching and follow-up lessons, assessing student progress, and organizing concerts and other musical events.
  • Build a classroom culture that empowers students, affirms their identities, and creates a sense of belonging for all students.
  • Implement the school-wide and classroom management policies and practices.
  • Create a responsive and inclusive environment for parents and families.
  • Internalize and prepare lessons focused on music development.
  • Maintain accurate grade book, and track communication with parents.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with students and families based on trust and respect.
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and team meetings.
  • Participate in the daily functions of the school such as morning, lunch, and afternoon supervisory duties.
  • Embrace and incorporate feedback in the spirit of constant improvement.
  • Meet professional obligations including timeliness and consistency in meeting deadlines.
  • One-to-One Check In's with students, classroom coverage as needed, leading extracurricular activities like leading Marching Band and attending athletic events.
