About The Position

City School is seeking a part-time Music Teacher for Pre-K through 8th grade students. The teacher will be responsible for creating an environment conducive to students’ spiritual, academic, and social development, modeling Christian religious beliefs, and demonstrating growth in understanding the Charlotte Mason approach to education. This role involves planning, rehearsing, and directing students in musical programs, implementing effective music lessons, and teaching skills in music appreciation, harmony, exploration, and choral music. The teacher will also be responsible for submitting lesson plans, keeping daily records, communicating with stakeholders, attending staff meetings and professional development, and stewarding school materials and equipment.

Requirements

  • Active member in good standing at a Christian church
  • Hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal skills are required when interacting with all stakeholders.
  • Experience and/or certification in music education.
  • Demonstrate willingness to continually learn and improve classroom management and instruction.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience, especially in a Charlotte Mason educational setting.
  • Experience with classical choir direction.
  • Hold a teaching license and/or certification.
  • Bilingual candidates, Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate leadership with a growth mindset and interpersonal skills including collaborative communication, flexibility, empathy and humility.
  • Create an environment conducive to students’ spiritual, academic and social development.
  • Model and apply City School’s Christian religious beliefs, mission, vision, values, philosophy of education and student formation beliefs.
  • Demonstrate growth in understanding of the Charlotte Mason approach to education.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performance.
  • Plan, rehearse and direct students in two musical programs for school and community.
  • Plan and implement effective developmentally appropriate lessons that develop students skills in music.
  • Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony, exploration in music, choral music including but not limited to vocal pitch, sight reading.
  • Submit weekly lesson plans/daily objectives in a timely manner.
  • Keep daily records (attendance, behavioral documentation, etc.)
  • Communicate well with students, parents, colleagues and supervisors.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings, special events, professional development sessions and teacher work days.
  • Effectively steward all designated school materials and equipment.
