About The Position

The Department of Psychology at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is seeking qualified, student-centered instructors for its part-time lecturer pool. The department needs instructors to teach undergraduate and, when appropriate, graduate courses across the Psychology curriculum. Areas of need include introductory psychology, research methods and statistics, biological psychology and neuroscience, clinical and counseling psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, and industrial-organizational psychology. Teaching assignments may be available at the San Bernardino Campus or Palm Desert Campus and can include in-person, hybrid, or online instruction. Part-time lecturer appointments are temporary and based on departmental instructional needs, enrollment, funding, and applicant qualifications. Applications are reviewed throughout the year as needs arise, and inclusion in the pool does not guarantee an appointment.

Requirements

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in Psychology or a field relevant to the course(s) to be taught, or enrollment in a relevant doctoral program with advancement to candidacy (ABD), by the time of appointment.
  • Academic preparation, professional expertise, or other qualifications appropriate to the assigned course(s).
  • Evidence of effective college-level teaching or the potential for effective college-level teaching.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior successful teaching experience at the college or university level.
  • A doctoral degree or advanced professional preparation relevant to the course assignment.
  • Professional or applied experience directly related to the subject matter of the course.
  • Evidence of effective, student-centered teaching practices.
  • Experience teaching and supporting students from a broad range of backgrounds and educational experiences.
  • Experience with the instructional modality required for the assignment, including online or hybrid instruction when applicable.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation.
  • Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and delivering course instruction consistent with approved course objectives and departmental and university expectations.
  • Maintaining an accurate and current course syllabus and clearly communicating course requirements and expectations.
  • Assessing student learning and providing timely and appropriate feedback.
  • Maintaining accurate course and student records.
  • Communicating with students and holding office hours in accordance with university requirements.
  • Using appropriate university instructional technologies, including the learning management system.
  • Complying with applicable university, college, and department policies and procedures.
